Google in the Alphabet

 GOOGLE FROM A-Z

I woke up today reading the latest buzz about the online world – Google is having a MAJOR shake-up. It will no longer be an independent entity; it’s now going to be part of a bigger company called “Alphabet.”

When I read “Alphabet” in some of the headlines, I thought they were merely talking about the famous “Alphabet” from A-Z.

So the deal here is that Google will still keep its main businesses such as its search engine unit, Google Map, and You tube; while the newer entities such as Google Fiber, Nest, Google Ventures (the investment arm of the company), its latest life sciences and delivery drones venture will run separately.

This move can be compared to a mother giving birth to her baby, once she finally becomes big and bloated and her baby has finally gained necessary characteristics to live separately from the mother, then she gives birth to it and it will finally live and grow separately from the mother’s body.

GOOGLE IS AN EVER GROWING TECH GIANT

Google has been growing all these years, and with their growing company also created a whole lot of load for Google as a single entity. That is why the brilliant minds behind Google have finally decided to create a new mother company, which will take a lot of load off Google.

Just like a person who is becoming fatter and bigger with all the food he/she has taken in, Google also needed “slimming down”, which led to the creation of “Alphabet.” It will absorb some of Google’s new entities while Google keeps its old ones.

Google’s heads will also undergo a massive turn-over and change of roles as the current CEO and co-founder Larry Page will leave his post and become the CEO of Alphabet. So he will still be able to watch over Google but in a higher area.

The other characters in this major change, co-founder Sergey Brin will become president of Alphabet, while Google's executive chairman Eric Schmidt will become Alphabet's executive chairman. So it’s just like climbing one step higher on the ladder of change.

The company’s senior vice president of products, Sundar Pichai, will be promoted as the new CEO of Google, taking on Mr. Page’s soon to be vacant position.

As the new mother company, Alphabet will also be taking over Google’s place as the publicly traded entity. Google will be the biggest among all the collection of companies that Alphabet will be handling soon.

Creating a new mother company is a good move for the tech giant as part of its continuous growth. After all, successful companies do need a little bit of overhauling sometimes. This is for the provision of better service to further satisfy customers and keep statistics up.

AN ORDINARY CUSTOMER'S PERSPECTIVE

I myself am a Google loyalist and so far have never encountered any problem with my Google use. As a satisfied customer, I gladly and openly welcome this change especially if it is committed to the further betterment of service.

The shake-up is still due by the latter part of the year and I for one, am going to be an excited spectator of this event. Until then, let's just wait and see.
